If I ruled the world! 80% of the school curriculum would be devoted to developing soft skills.
This post was inspired by the podcast: “@What now?” by comedian Trevor Noah. If you don’t know him, you have to watch his videos. They are just as interesting as they are funny. One of the recurring topics is ‘if I ruled the world’. Guests propose a rule they would put in place if they ruled the world. The other participants ask questions and then vote on whether they agree with that rule or not.
So! If I ruled the world, I would dedicate 80% of the educational curriculum to emotional intelligence (not to be confused with the other “intelligence” that’s trending right now), collective intelligence (still not AI), social skills, and spirituality (to be clear, I’m not talking about religion, but rather meditation). The remaining 20% would be devoted to the usual skills in science, mathematics, and linguistics, tailored to each person’s individual needs.
Why this rule? Because I believe this is what we need in an ever-changing and increasingly uncertain world. We need to be able to connect, support one another, and find solutions together. This requires a sense of groundedness that comes from self-awareness and emotional intelligence. And it would also transform our relationship with nature β allowing us to learn to live with it rather than trying to control it.
What about you? If you ruled the world, what would you propose?
PS: Thanks to Gemini for this fictional image. I love it π
