Closing round

by Catherine Malchaire

Have you heard of the closing round? No, not a dance. A closing round. πŸ›ž

At the end of each meeting, you go around the participants to find out how everyone is feeling coming out of it. Whether someone is worried, enthusiastic, frustrated, optimistic, or indifferent, at least you’ll know what each person is taking away and what will need to be addressed down the line.

It also allows you to gauge whether everyone is truly committed to the decisions made during the meeting. Even if everyone said they agreed, for some people it may have only been a “soft yes.” Those people, the moment they leave the room, may change their minds or start to doubt the decisions. With the closing round, their state of mind becomes visible and you can address any reservations on the spot.

It will save you an enormous amount of time. And as a bonus, it strengthens team cohesion.

Does this only apply to large teams? Not at all. At 9 CUBE, we use it at every single meeting.
